16 convicts learn new lessons in jail, become graduates - Santosh Andhale, Mumbai Mirror
Sixteen prisoners will turn over a new leaf by earning themselves Bachelor of Arts degrees β nine with a first class β from the Yashwantrao Chavan Open University (YCOU) on January 31. The prisoners, four of whom are from Paithan Jail and 12 from Nagpur Jail, will attend the convocation at the Nashik campus of the varsity, which is recognised by the Maharashtra Government. YCOU Examination Controller Prakash Atkare said, βThe jailer of both jails have given these prisoners permission to attend the convocation function. We are making the necessary arrangements for this. This is the first time such a large number of prisoners are passing the examination.β
