Online teachers at MUM pull in front of pack - Middletown Journal
In six years Internet capabilities have changed significantly, and it seems Miami University’s view on online classes has too. In the past, Miami was known for holding onto the notion that the stock and trade of “really good universities” depends on the quality of interaction between professors and their students, said Kelly Cowan, interim dean at Miami University-Middletown.
Now, in lieu of hours of dedication and persistent examination of the online course work, two professors at the MUM campus have the blessing of leaders from Oxford and Hamilton to begin a university-wide effort to create and organize online courses.
MUM professors, Janet Hurn and Beth Dietz-Uhler, have been teaching online classes through the branch for years. Dietz-Uhler was the first to launch an online class in 1999, and thus far, MUM is the only campus to offer online courses.
