Gifted kids get credits and challenges through NU’s online enrichment courses - Amanda Palleschi, Daily Northwestern
Some students at Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek, Wis., dislike teachers they’ve never met. The students aren’t being unfair, said their guidance counselor, Lynnea Hickey. “You can get a certain attitude from a teacher just as easily online as you would in person,” she said. Hickey supervises the involvement of Gibraltar students in LearningLinks, a Northwestern program that allows gifted students throughout the Midwest to take online courses through NU’s Center for Talent Development . Students enrolled in LearningLinks correspond with paid instructors throughout the United States. They can receive one to two high school credits when an advanced course is successfully completed.
