Teacher uses podcasts, other high-tech tools - Lisa Petrillo, San Diego Union-Tribune
Bennett Cherry, in his old-school crew-necked sweater, is perhaps the hippest prof on campus.... Cherry has plucked a paper-clip-size microphone from the head of his Apple iPod; it looks something like a Lego brick. He has attached the small mike to his sweater to record his lecture into a digital sound file and will later post that file on the Internet as a podcast. Students who missed class or want to review his past lectures to help cram for tests can simply retrieve the files with their own iPods or other MP3 digital music players. Those palm-sized MP3 players that can store thousands of songs in digital computerized sound files and play them back like the world's smallest portable stereos are as common as cell phones on many college campuses. That's the point of the podcasting experiment for Cherry, who is pioneering the technology for the College of Business.
