More Arizona students signing up for online classes - Associated Press
More and more Arizona K-12 students are opting for a virtual education. According to state officials, 10,816 took at least one class through virtual schools last year, with even more enrolling this year. It's part of a distance-learning surge that is spreading rapidly into high schools and below, modeled after higher education and corporate America. Online classes are especially popular with homebound students and those living in rural areas with few school choices, said Mary Gifford, director of Arizona Virtual Academy, the largest virtual charter school in the state.
