This summer, the word on everybody’s lips was “podcast.” Thanks to an updated version of Apple’s wildly popular iTunes software, the media created a storm about how technology was remaking radio as we knew it. Article after article fawned over the new utility, hailing it as revolutionary. Only one question remained on the minds of the masses: what the hell is a podcast? The term, a combination of iPod and broadcast, actually has little to do with either; it refers to any regularly updated mp3 distributed over the internet.
