Area colleges seeing rise in online class enrollment - Dave Stephens, The Hutchinson News
A soldier, stationed in Iraq, spends his evenings working on homework for his class at Barton County Community College. A woman, living in Atlanta, completes her associate's degree at Hutchinson Community College and flies in for the graduation ceremony. A college student, living in Lawrence, earns credit toward graduation by taking an economics class from a professor in Garden City. These scenarios, and many more, are part of what is fueling the online learning boom in central and southwest Kansas - as more and more students, traditional and nontraditional, use the Internet as a tool to further their education. That surge in online education might be most noticeable at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, where more classes are being taught in an online format than in traditional classrooms.
