Westchester colleges tapping into online learning - BOB CHUVALA, Westchester County Business Journal
More than 30 years ago, Iona College in New Rochelle inaugurated what it called "distance learning," using videotaped classes based on a public broadcasting educational series and other media of the day to provide a college education to off-campus students. Today, most of Iona's distance learning is by the Internet, which has even become an important part of face-to-face classroom learning. "There are many wonderful attributes of pure distance learning that we want to incorporate into the traditional classroom," said Warren Rosenberg, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Iona. "Even in our traditional classroom-based courses we have online chat rooms, discussion boards and research assignments. And, students submit their work through online drop boxes."
