Virtual school offers expanded learning - CHRIS REINOLDS, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Rising high school senior James Dorsey tackled algebra this summer from the comfort of his home computer. Between training for baseball and football, the Martin Luther King High School student recently finished his online Algebra 1 course through the newly created Georgia Virtual School. "I did all right," said Dorsey, who is expecting an A in the class. Many Georgia students already take online classes through universities and some school system programs. Soon, more students will be able to take online courses thanks to the creation of the Georgia Virtual School. The program is an expansion of a small statewide program run by the state Department of Education. Gov. Sonny Perdue signed legislation last spring to create the virtual school.
