Universities go digital - Matt Krupnick, CONTRA COSTA TIMES
On a computer screen in UC Berkeley's Wurster Hall, a commando runs through the empty streets of medieval Cairo, looking ready to blow away marauding mummies or anything else that moves. Dressed in jeans and a tightly fitting dark shirt, he comes to a stop in front of a market stall. Looking to his left, the stern-faced man lifts one arm toward the shop -- and gestures calmly with the air of a museum curator, no weapons in sight. The three graduate students operating the commando are not playing "Halo" or any other best-selling video game. They're creating a tool to teach other architecture students about Cairo's building styles, and they're doing it the same way as scores of colleges across the country.
