Online learning taking hold in Fairfield County - BOB CHUVALA, Fairfield County Business Journal
Sacred Heart University in Fairfield began offering online courses in 1997 when the concept was fairly new and radical. It isn't anymore. "Since then we've grown 1,800 percent in the number of courses and students taking them," said Nancy Sidoti, dean of the university college. The online courses were originally designed for part-time students and adults, "but became so attractive that the full-time population jumped on the courses," Sidoti said. "We just keep offering more and more, combined with on-ground courses." Today, 75 percent of the core courses are online, some of which fill up as soon as they're offered, she said.
