Online learning poised for breakthrough in Minnesota - PATRICK CONDON, Associated Press
But recent legislative changes, while educators look for alternatives in a cash-strapped environment, suggest online learning is poised to grow as an alternative - or at least as a supplement - to traditional classroom education. In 2003-04, the most recent year for which the state Department of Education has data, 925 students had some kind of online component in their schooling. The number of students who studied exclusively online is much smaller, but the success of charter schools in Minnesota has made institutions like the five-year-old BlueSky possible.
