Overseas ‘Irish colleges’ told to stop using link - joe brennan and graham walsh, London Times
The department of education has asked a Malaysian college and four other institutions offering courses aimed at the lucrative long-distance learning market in Asia to stop parading themselves as Irish universities, because they do not have proper accreditation. The Irish International University of Europa (IIUE), which was set up as a company in Ireland in March 2000 and has its campus near Kuala Lumpur, trades under the name Institiud Idirnaiseuinta na h-Eireann Den Aontas Eorpach Teoranta. Daniel Mulhall, the Irish ambassador to Malaysia, has severely criticised the institution in recent weeks. “They do not offer any courses or conduct any classes in Ireland. I find the name is itself a deception because they are neither Irish nor a university,” Mulhall was quoted as saying in the New Straits Times.
