Lynn U. student motivated by return in virtual classroom - Lona O'Connor, Palm Beach Post
When Libby Barland graduates on Saturday at Lynn University, she might not recognize some of her classmates until they introduce themselves. These are people with whom she has had spirited class discussions. They know all about her new grandchild, and what she thinks about psychology and criminal behavior, but they have never laid eyes on her. Barland, 59, a former executive, a mother and grandmother, is a distance-learning student at Lynn. She takes tests in pajamas late at night while her husband Barry sleeps. She goes to the Lynn library — via cyberspace — and uses it as a portal to international publications. She talks with students from Europe and the Caribbean on Internet discussion boards.
