State should back on-line high schools - The Enterprise at South Boston
The promise of on-line high school courses is extraordinary. Already used in Abington, Avon, East Bridgewater, Whitman-Hanson and Plymouth and scheduled to begin this fall in Brockton, they provide access to learning that students would not otherwise have and in doing so give them a competitive advantage when applying to college. They are a boon for students struggling to learn under special circumstances, whether they be health related or stem from work or family issues. And students who are too shy to fully participate in regular classrooms have proven to be much more confident and involved when taking classes on-line.
