And different media can coexist in compound multimedia documents. Perhaps most significant, the technical barriers and practical prerequisites for production have been dramatically reduced in recent years. With a common format, it is easier to keep diverse work together in one place. Without the limitations of physical space, it is possible to maintain a substantial archive of work with multiple revisions that might become important in the future. Digital convergence, affordability, and ease-of-use are creating portfolio opportunities for more disciplines while enhancing the opportunities for fields with long portfolio traditions.
