Emphasise lifelong learning - WEE HUI BIEH, Malaysia Star
With Malaysia now depending on her human capital to propel the nation into the next phase of economic develop-ment, it is time that Malaysians regard education as a lifelong process rather than just what we pursue in our youth. To reflect this, the newly established Higher Education Ministry would be more appropriately named Higher and Lifelong Education Ministry. Within this ministry, there should be a department that oversees continuing education, distance learning, e-learning and other forms of adult education. The department of lifelong education can then plan for and look into issues and problems of lifelong education.
