Private firm now runs Grand Canyon U. - Judd Slivka, The Arizona Republic
A private company took over management of Grand Canyon University this week and wants to turn it into a major Christian university that "should have 10,000 students on campus and 100,000 students online." The agreement between the San Diego-based Significant Education and the 4,100-student university, which was having financial difficulties, is only for 30 days. But the man who is the managing partner of the venture-capital group and the university plans to stay much longer and create a place where students can pursue "values-based education." "Grand Canyon had the spiritual and the academic parts," said Michael Clifford, now the managing director of the university as well as Significant Education's parent company, Significant Ventures. "Financial management was where they were very weak. I asked them, 'What if we could link the education and Christian mission with the excitement of what's going on on Wall Street?'
