Online revenue rush a threat to education in Australia - Malcolm Cole, the Courier Mail
Universities may be compromising their teaching standards in order to maximise revenue from online education, a Federal Government report has revealed. The report says while online learning can be a powerful tool for distance education, both students and staff suspect universities are using it as a money-maker and not investing adequate resources. In some universities, highly interactive online learning was placing "demands and possibly unreal expectations on staff and to some extent students". About 42,000 students starting university courses last year – more than 10 per cent of the total – were off-campus students, with a high proportion of them engaged in online learning.
