Wendy O'Brien... is charged with ensuring that 3Com University provides sales and technical information about 3Com's products and services to more than 55,000 users in 180 countries. But the odds are stacked against her: She has to do all this with a staff that was slashed from 60 full-time training and development professionals to eight. The staff—which O'Brien dubs "the magnificent seven, plus one"—develops and manages 3Com's certification program, which includes seven curricula, three authorization programs, countless internal sales programs, live training events, and the day-to-day upkeep of 400 courses in eight languages. "We couldn't pull this off without a well-built blended learning program," O'Brien says.
