Traditional brick-and-mortar colleges in the Boston area, once reticent to offer online courses, are embracing the long-distance student like never before in search of high-margin revenue. Area universities, including Boston University, UMass and Lesley, have generated sharp online revenue gains by offering degree programs in specialized areas.
