Online college courses gaining ground in Puerto Rico - Lorraine Blasor, Caribbean Business
Online learning is growing in popularity at island universities, with Inter American University leading the way in technology investment and the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) about to launch its first online certificate program. These initiatives, according to sources in the education field, will enable higher-learning institutions to remain competitive as their demographics shift from mostly full-time students to more part-time students with jobs and families and professionals returning to school to train for new careers. These students have less time to study, hence the pressure for universities to offer distance-learning alternatives.
