Slidell school steps on AOL toes - Paul Rioux, Times-Picayune
Although Grantham University bills itself as the fastest-growing institution of higher education in the country, most Slidell residents are probably unaware that it's practically located in their back yards. But the "distance-learning" school has definitely caught the attention of American Online, the nation's largest Internet service provider. With a reported 5,000 students enrolled in classes conducted on the Internet, a tenfold increase in the past four years, Grantham has filed a trademark application for the slogan "America's Online University." The application set off a tiff with AOL, which says the slogan infringes on the company's trademarked name. Facing a possible legal battle with the media giant, the university plans to withdraw the application, Grantham Chief Executive Tom Macon said Tuesday.
