.... At General Motors Corp., employees are encouraged to enroll in such programs. Last year, GM paid for MBA degrees for more than 200 employees through Cardean University at half the cost of traditional programs, said Christine D'Angela, spokeswoman for GMU, the company's education and training network. Many employees also use the company's tuition assistance program to enroll in other online universities. "We've gone to a lot of e-learning," D'Angela said. "It allows for a lot of flexibility." GM employees are spread across the globe and online learning allows them to enroll in a program no matter where they work, D'Angela added. Ford Motor Co. also has an extensive online learning program for its employees. The company also has hired employees with online degrees.
