Grads meet, get degrees at ceremony in Spa City - MATT LEON, The Saratogian
About 75 Empire State College classmates met for the first time in person Sunday -- at their graduation. The ceremony took place at the Saratoga Springs City Center, where degrees were conferred on those who completed the college's distance learning or international programs in the last year.... Much of Empire State's learning takes place online, sometimes in Internet discussion groups. Many students design their own programs, working with faculty advisors, and some earn credit for life experience, community involvement or their current career. 'You have no idea how much I admire how hard it was for you guys to get those degrees,' said keynote speaker Monte Trammer, publisher of the Elmira Gazette, former publisher of The Saratogian and a distance learner himself.
