MECC using technology to expand distance education - JEFF LESTER, Coalfield.com
BIG STONE GAP - Thirty years ago, it was a fleet of buses, running the winding roads from far western Lee County to northern Wise County to southern Scott County. Now, Mountain Empire Community College's distance education courses are only as far away as a mouse click or a camera-monitor setup in a high school classroom. MECC is consistently ranked among the top five Virginia community colleges for use of the Internet, two-way interactive video or other methods to provide off-campus instruction.
