Virtual Education the Ticket for Working Adults - Wayne Hanson, Converge
The University of Phoenix (UoP) is now the largest private accredited university in the United States. In 1989, UoP began developing virtual programs, which evolved into the University of Phoenix Online. While UoP provided university classes designed around the needs of working adults, UoP Online offered additional flexibility and opportunity. Brian Mueller is CEO of the University of Phoenix Online. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Concordia University, and was a professor there for four years. The economy has been in a slump recently, how has that affected the University of Phoenix Online? We don't really see a lot of variance on our growth. If the economy is on an upturn and things are going well, people want to experience that prosperity. One way to do that is to earn a higher degree and be eligible for promotion. If the economy is on a downturn, people out of work feel a need to go back to school. People who are still working may have seen layoffs at their companies [and]don't want to end up on the street without a degree and no tuition reimbursement.
