Diploma mills: A for enterprise, but F for ethics - Jennifer Beauprez, Denver Post
...As many as 481 diploma mills sell bogus degrees online. That's up from 320 two years ago, said John Bear, author of "Bears' Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning" and a self-styled expert on diploma mills. An individual operation may sell degrees from as many as 30 fake schools. "We have never seen anything this worldwide and sophisticated previously," said Allen Ezell, a retired FBI investigator who in the 1980s headed the agency's diploma mill task force. That task force dissolved when he retired in 1991. "No one in law enforcement has touched it."
