Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Microsoft Test Tablet PCs in iCampus
Professors from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are collaborating with Microsoft on a research project, iCampus, which examines how technology can enhance the educational experience. When MIT hosted this year’s International Design Contest (IDC)—a robot design competition—Tablet PCs played a key role in the early design process. Participating student teams received Acer TravelMate 100 Tablet PCs running Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. After seeing the effectiveness of the Tablet PC for student collaboration and creative design efforts, MIT professors are confident they can use the Tablet PC to develop project-based learning courses, and are predicting that the Tablet PC may soon replace the laptop computer in the classroom environment, for students and professors alike.
