Armstrong Introduction: The expansion of distance education technologies provides unique opportunities for institutions of higher education to deliver credit courses and continuing education courses to geographically diverse adult audiences. This phenomenon has required institutions to reevaluate how they support and facilitate faculty members’ continuing professional development as distance instructors (Olcott and Wright 1995). The problem is that the adoption of interactive distance education technologies to teach students at a distance exceeds faculty members’ adaption of their teaching to accommodate the new technologies (Green and Gilbert 1995)....
