People have used these acronyms interchangeably, as though the systems offered the same features and functions. The truth is, most users have a vague idea of what an LCMS is and are trying to reconcile that with what they know about LMSs. An LMS is distinctly different from an LCMS. In fact, the two share only minor areas of overlap. The main purpose of an LMS is to manage students and learning events and to collate data on learner progress. The LMS manages the events leading up to the actual learning and then collates the results of what happened in the course. Conversely, an LCMS manages what happens inside the course....
