Online English lessons prove a hit
Goh Chin Lian

A TRIAL run of an online course on basic English has passed with flying colours, with success rates way above those of conventional classroom lessons. Most finished the course one to two months ahead of schedule, fewer dropped out and half of them scored a distinction, compared to the 35 per cent from classroom learning. Heartened by the results, the Institute of Technical Education plans to offer, by the end of this year, the online course to at least 10 per cent of the estimated 3,500 blue-collar workers who sit for the Basic Education for Skills Training (Best) English Language Module 4, the equivalent of Primary 6.
