It reminds me of what walking a tightrope must be like. Tight ropewalkers have a reasonably clear objective, which is to get from one side to the other without falling. Their purpose is also clear, usually money, publicity, the buzz they get from taking risks or the audience acclaim. Walking a tight rope indoors is usually not a problem, but outdoors tight ropewalkers have to contend with the vagaries of the wind. In designing learning experiences, it's not enough to know what you want to do and why you want to do it, because your audience is like the wind, to some degree predictable if you're an experienced observer, but not entirely. Whether you're a tight ropewalker or a designer of learning, you have to be prepared for the unexpected and be able to make adjustments....
