Instruction over the Internet is maturing, and its quality will increasingly be scrutinized. Online student completion rates should be -- and can be -- improved. What course components and practices tend to be associated with high rates of student completion? Conversely, are there certain components that seem to drive students away? These elements are examined in light of the special characteristics of online courses; relevant methods that enhance retention are featured....
