The growing trend toward online education may lead to the practice of conferring degrees to students who haven't learned everything they should, said M.O. Thirunarayanan, a Florida International University associate professor.... "Assessment in distance education often relies on the integrity of students," the article states. "While a majority of distance learners may be honest, there is the possibility for cheating on projects, quizzes and exams." Most of the University's online degree programs are very small, which makes cheating difficult, said Carolyn Awalt, media coordinator in the Learning Technology Center....
